A central information and support point that connects the local community, the state and the European Union in the transformation of Zasavje from a coal mine to a high-tech and low-carbon region.

In 2023, the Zasavje Regional Development Agency founded the Zasavje Just Transition Center, for which it acquired additional funds for technical assistance. The centre is an information hub, the entry point for all stakeholders in the region’s restructuring, and the main support structure for implementing just transition activities in the region.

The Zasavje Just Transition Center is a separate unit from the tasks carried out under governance structures.
The centre carries out the following activities:

  • Concluding local partnerships and networking for projects and operations,

  • Providing training and capacity strengthening for project sponsors

  • Ensuring support during project preparation (support in compiling project ideas, preparing applications, gathering investment documentation, etc.),

  • Oversight of project implementations and support with project management, as well as documenting spatially and environmentally degraded areas/brownfield sites (condition, optimal use, manner and timeline for rehabilitation, etc.),

  • Preparing studies and analyses necessary for an effective and timely implementation of the strategy and the related programs, measures, or project,

The Zasavje Just Transition Center also functions as the main information hub and oversees the consistent implementation of informing measures of both the local stakeholders of the just transition (e.g., citizens, project sponsors, coal miners, etc.) as well as the wider interested public. It also coordinates the activities of all the stakeholders in the region (youth, NGOs, social partners, economy, local communities, other) for activities related to the TJTP of the Zasavje Coal Region.
