The Zasavje Region lies in the heart of Slovenia along the middle reaches of the Sava River and is surrounded by a ring of peaks dominated by Mt Kum, the “Triglav of Zasavje”. It is made up of the Municipalities of Hrastnik, Trbovlje, Zagorje ob Savi, and Litija.

The Zasavje Region is the most prolific coal mining region in Slovenia, having experienced its economic boom over two hundred years ago precisely because of the black gold that was coal, which also dictated the development of other industrial sectors. The glass industry also boasts over one hundred and fifty years of tradition in the Zasavje Region.

The region connects to the highway network at Trojane, and a railway connection runs directly through it via the V. as well as the X. Pan-European transport corridor. Zasavje is only about an hour’s drive from the country’s capital and about half an hour from Celje, which makes it an excellent base for Slovenia and beyond.
