Amended Decision on Support for the Public Call for Co-financing Projects for the Construction of Economic and Business Infrastructure in the Zasavje Coal Region within the Just Transition Fund

The Ministry for Cohesion and Regional Development (MKRR), in its role as the managing authority, issued an amended decision on August 9th regarding support for the Public Call for Co-financing Projects for the Construction of Economic and Business Infrastructure in the Zasavje Coal Region within the Just Transition Fund. The total amount of public funds allocated for the implementation of the public call now amounts to just over EUR 12.4 million, which is an increase of nearly EUR 2.7 million from the previous amount. These additional funds were reallocated from the Regional Development Agreement (DRR) based on the July decision of the Zasavje Regional Development Council and were designated to increase the resources within the Just Transition Fund. The Director of RRA Zasavje, Jani Medvešek, is confident that the additional funds will enable applicants and beneficiaries to implement higher-quality projects that are even more aligned with the needs of the economy in our region: “Once again, it has been demonstrated how important genuine territorial dialogue is, as conducted by the region and the state in the transformation of Zasavje. Only by allowing the region to decide on its needs can the effectiveness and long-term planning of cohesion policy measures be strengthened.” The total amount of public funds allocated for the implementation of the public call, which is focused on the functional development and revitalization of economic and business infrastructure on rehabilitated areas related to coal mining and coal use in Zasavje, thus increases from EUR 9,752,941.18 to EUR 12,417,372.35. The call promotes the development of entrepreneurship and employment, as well as the restructuring of coal regions towards a low-carbon economy. The target group of the call includes companies that will operate in the established or expanded business zones. Eligible applicants are municipalities from the core area of the Zasavje coal region: Hrastnik, Trbovlje, and Zagorje ob Savi. Project locations can only be in areas defined as degraded or directly on coal mining sites. In the Territorial Just Transition Plan for the Zasavje Coal Region, three projects for equipping economic and business infrastructure are listed as strategically important. These include the OIC Lakonca in the municipality of Trbovlje, OIC Rudnik in the municipality of Hrastnik, and OIC Kisovec II in the municipality of Zagorje ob Savi, which has already been approved and will receive co-financing amounting to 85% of the project value, or EUR 1,500,000.
