The Municipality of Litija is part of the Zasavje Statistical Region. It covers 221 km2. It ranks 24th among Slovenian municipalities in area size. place.
The municipality had 15,753 inhabitants in 2023 (8,006 men and 7,747 women). An average 71.2 people lived per square kilometre of the municipality, which means the population density was lower than the national average (104.4 inhabitants per km2).
